For some reason, George Mason University invited Wanda Sykes to entertain at the Patriot Center during Families Weekend. She was born in Virginia and raised in Maryland and it is nice to welcome people back to their hometowns, but her show does not exactly top the list for a teen deciding what to do with Dad or Aunt Karen on a Saturday night. I was not the only person perplexed by this decision; Sykes herself stated that she didn’t know “what they were thinking” bringing her “foul-mouthed ass” to the stage. But her performance proved that the university made an excellent choice.

September 7, 2011Comedian Wanda Sykes, presented by GMU University Life & Involvement, will be taking the stage on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 8:00 p.m. at the Patriot Center. Ranked among Entertainment Weekly’s Top 25 Funniest People in America, Wanda Sykes has been featured on two HBO comedy specials, as well as several hit television shows on FOX, CBS, HBO and Comedy Central. Sykes has also been in several feature films including Evan Almighty and Monster-In-Law.
