We’re gonna live forever. We’re gonna be young forever. The world is wide open to us. – Jessica
After a couple weak episodes recently, “Boot” really picks up the pace for a refreshing change. Things pick up right where they left off last week, with Alcide getting c***blocked first by vomit, and eventually Bill and Eric. What I like here was that the episode goes back to follow up on the freeing of Russell from his silver-lined concrete grave. I do remember Alcide saying something about one of his employees being unable to recall exactly what happened. So Sookie is brought in to help ‘de-glamour’ the employee’s memory and their story actually turns up quite a tense exploration of an abandoned asylum that eventually reintroduces an always droll, annoyed Russell at the tail end. I could gripe about how Eric should have immediately staked him after entering the room, but I’ll let it slide since everything about the asylum leading up to this moment was spookily fun. These beans is colder than titties in a brass bra. – Lafayette
“Whatever” introduces us to yet even more characters than was ever necessary, much less wanted. This time we get to spend a bit of time with Salome, Roman’s seductress on staff. She was apparently around during Jesus’ time on Earth, though her exploits may have been exaggerated, she confesses to Eric at one point. She didn’t do much except get naked for the purpose of extracting all the information she could on Eric and Bill to make sure they weren’t with the Sanguinistas Movement. Like the old saying goes: you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, but still… Oh and while we’re on the Vampire Authority, Reverend Steve is brought back yet again to provide some comic relief and take on major new responsibility, oy. I guess it’s better than resuming his Pepe Lepew tactics with Jason. But with his recent promotion of replacing Nan Flanagan, I suspect he will re-confront Jessica with his newfound power and try to muscle in on Jason yet again.

Oh True Blood, you remain so steadfastly silly even as we make the splash into the fifth season. How is it possible the show has gone on for so long? Set in the fictional Louisiana town of Bon Temps, we’ve gotten a build-up of supernatural elements that has recently covered witchcraft, Mexican black magic, various ‘were-beings’ (the panthers were completely wasted) and faeries. Yes it wasn’t enough to have your main character be psychic (believable enough), but then to play fairy card? Sigh, if you’ve read this far and watched to this point, these insights probably don’t matter so much.

Picking up mere moments from the mid-season finale, “Nebraska” wasted no time in Shane grilling Hershel over whether he knew that Sophia had been being kept in the barn. Hershel being in a state of shock over seeing his zombified wife being put down denies this emphatically stating that it had been Otis who was in charge of zombie wrangling and storage. This claim is multi-problematic. First it doesn’t really fit the timeline, and second we’ve already seen that such a task is difficult for a group (let alone a single man), even one like Rick’s who have a fair bit of zombie slaying under their belts.
