Well, as boring as my title is, that’s how boring “The King and I” was. I’m not going to go too far with this revue because I know that I was in the minority! I will start by saying that, “The King and I” is a show that I have avoided performing in, for my whole career. It is usually a show that I like to watch occasionally, but after seeing this incarnation, I do not need to see it again for a long time! After seeing the non-union production of, “South Pacific” earlier in the season at Wolf Trap, I expected this union production to blow me away and it barely kept me awake! Right from the get-go, I was bored.
DC, Do You Feel Excited!?! For this weekend at Verizon Center, you will be amazed and thrilled as the world of DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon comes to life right before your eyes! If you want to take your family on a night out, then look no further for this show takes you on a journey you’ll talk about all summer long.
THEATRE REVUE: The Agony and The Ecstasy of Steve Jobs left me with more agony than the ecstasy that I was expecting!July 20, 2012
“The Agony and The Ecstasy of Steve Jobs” is now playing at the Woolly Mammoth Theater in D.C. The misnomer here is “Steve Jobs”. While he is a main thread through the entire evening, putting his name in the title is simply to get people into the seats. I would have enjoyed the show more, if I didn’t have the expectation or preconceived notion that this would be about the life of Steve Jobs.
It’s a pirate’s life for me!!
The Gilbert and Sullivan Players performing the classic, “Pirates of Penzance” came to take the area by storm, little did they know the derecho was brewing up it’s own storm!
I had the absolute pleasure of watching pure genius and expert talent come together, the other night in the Kreeger Theater at Arena Stage.
What a thought provoking show! The combination of statistical information and facts combined with humor, rolled with brilliant acting, made for a play that is now on my, “everyone must-see list”. I am already planning when to take friends back and when to take family! There are very few shows, if any, that have a serious subject matter that I would watch over and over again and come out feeling uplifted. This play is written in such a unique way. I really can’t get over it! Having missed the show on Broadway last season, I only knew the synopsis. Which, as you all know, I won’t give away here! I will say that because the play revolves around the beginning of the HIV/Aids epidemic in the early 1980′s, it is easy to expect a somber evening. Playwright Larry Kramer has just the right amount of jocosity seamlessly braided through his story. Alright, so you get my point! On to the actors…
“Riverdance” is now playing it’s final U.S. Tour and has chosen Wolf Trap as it’s last stop before heading to Europe for good.
If you have never seen “Riverdance” live before, it is certainly worth going to see and if you have, see it again, before you have to cross the pond to do-so!
It was Some Enchanted Evening! The NETworks Presentations, LLC production of “South Pacific” is now playing at The Filene Center at Wolf Trap through Sunday (June 3rd). I will start off with my grading this time! As some of you know, usually I go through all of the details and then give the grade, but I felt that this particular cast deserved to have the suspense lifted!
Overall production: A+
Performance Grade: A+ Each member of the cast from the leads through the ensemble, earned this grade!
Overall experience: A+, with a special note that the buggies are out in full force and early this year, so don’t forget to spray before you get to the theatre!! But as always, it is such a treat to see a show at Wolf Trap!
Now, on with the in-depth review… Read the rest of this entry »
