This morning, the 68th Annual Golden Globe Nominees were announced! Among the heavy hitters this year were, by no surprise, The Social Network, The King’s Speech and The Fighter. While this year’s nominees seemed decent, there are a few questionables in the crowd. For example, why did The Tourist get three nominations for doing such an average job of capturing the audience and the remake of True Grit which had such amazing talent from Jeff Bridges and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld got shutout completely. If you do some research on the neighborhood of Charlestown, you’ll find that it is apart of many “firsts” in America’s history. Arguably one of the earliest of America’s settlements, having been established in 1628, it served as the site of the Battle of Bunker Hill, the first battle of the Revolutionary War. These days though, the Boston neighborhood (a single square mile of land), apparently has another more infamous distinction, a distinction which Mr. Affleck, a Boston native himself, uses as the subject of his new film, The Town. Directed by Ben Affleck, the story follows a team of robbers in Charlestown whose heists get threatened by the ensuing relationship between the team’s leader and a hostage (from one of the team’s heist).
