I Love You Phillip Morris

The first words that appear on screen in this movie state that this movie is a true story. Really, it’s a true story. Don’t forget those little words as you watch this preposterous film because the things you’re going to see on screen will truly make you believe this is a work of fiction, and not non-fiction. It’s all over the place, overtly gay, and will take you on a truly wild ride that will make you laugh, cringe, and drop your jaw to the floor.

MOVIE REVUE: Jailbreaks, Fraud, and Theft… It’s All For Love

It seems that the notion of the filmic love story is dying out.  From Gone With The Wind to Moulin Rouge!, love stories have their own tropes and conventions – the awkward getting-to-know-you phase, the first kiss, the fight that may break the relationship apart, all culminating in one person going to a daring extreme for the other (usually at the end of the movie) in order to prove their love.  I Love You Phillip Morris seems to have stocked its 93-minute running time full to bursting with those movie-ending moments to show what con man Steven Russell would do to stay near his soul mate, the titular Phillip Morris.  Is I Love You Phillip Morris a love story?  Yes, and a pointedly funny one at that.
