The fanboy engines sure have been revving for exaltation since the ultra awful Spider Man 3 hit theatres in 2007. There were so many problems that simply could not be forgiven, a fault of studio interference more so than the personal failings of Sam Raimi, whose trilogy always felt heavily flawed to me, despite good intentions. Now five years later the reboot task is up to relative newbie Marc Webb, whose lone previous film credit is the indie romantic 500 Days of Summer. Now I have not seen that, but by all accounts it is supposed to be quite good. Perhaps not surprisingly, the best things about this latest Spider-Man are indeed the more intimate character moments between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. That said, I’ll try not to let my own experiences with the characters (I dabbled in the comics, action figures and awesome ‘90s cartoon) taint my review, and keep any comparisons strictly to the other films.

One of endearing classics from Fox Television’s earliest days was 21 Jump Street. For five seasons, we saw an elite group of fresh face police officers go undercover to investigate a variety of crimes through in high schools and colleges. A quarter of a century later, Street hits the big screen with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum at the helm. While this new film maybe considered a remake, Street takes on a life of its own while paying some respect to the original. Are you jump, back down on Jump Street?

Sandler apparently didn’t get the memo from Eddie Murphy or Tyler Perry. If you play multiple characters in a comedy in this day and age, IT’S NOT FUNNY! Secondly, if you decide to play yourself and your ugly twin sister on film, IT’S STRANGE. The combination of these two facts and Al Pacino’s extreme parody of himself will leave you wondering – Why waste any of my time watching this crappy movie? Pacino was right at the end, burn all the copies! Can we throw this film in the bonfire as well?
