For those who do not know, I am a bonafide fan of Cirque Du Soleil. Ever since my first experience in 2007 with the production of Kooza in National Harbor, I wanted to witness more of what this amazing circus troupe from Canada can do. Since Kooza, I have seen three other productions (Ovo, Totem, and Quidam) in the DC/Baltimore Metro areas. Every show delivers outstanding performances that are beyond words. I cannot believe what appeared before my eyes last night when I sat in my seat at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore. Only months since the MJ Immortal Tour, Cirque is BACK with the production that launched the Cirque connection for Charm City way back in 2003. Mix fascinating doses of western and eastern cultures with live music, astonishing acrobats, and crazy comedic clowns and you’ve got Dralion!
If you have never been to a Cirque Du Soleil before, our gracious photographer Mark Mahoney has got some pics for you!

Cirque du Soleil marked its much anticipated return to Baltimore with Quidam, which premiered Thursday night at 1st Mariner Arena and will continue through August 28th. Encompassing a veritable dream team of top athletes, dancers, singers, musicians and actors from around the world, Quidam (pronounced “Key-dahm”) is an interpretive departure into a little girl’s fantasy world, a story as unique in its dark exploration of the human psyche as it is in colorful, physics-defying beauty.
Since its inception in 1984, Cirque du Soleil has symbolized a level of performance that exceeds the boundaries of human capability. Through almost three decades of resident and touring shows, international audiences have grown to expect an exhibition of finely tuned acrobatic talent from all over the world, blending its trademark flavor of circus and street performance with imaginative characters and storytelling. A Cirque classic, Quidam has come to Baltimore for the first time and is performing at the 1st Mariner Arena August 24th-28th. The show first premiered in the company’s home town of Montreal in 1996 and after fifteen years has been incorporated into their recently formed arena division.
Cirque Du Soleil never ceases to amaze its millions of fans when it comes to the physical feats they display in their numerous productions. The famous Montreal-based troupe is at it again once more with the production of Quidam! Celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this year, Quidam makes a stop at the 1st Mariner Arena for a one week engagement through August 28th. With a cast of 52 top notch world class acrobats, singers, musicians, and performers, Quidam delivers a magnificent feast of visually breathtaking acts for the young at heart, comedic sketches that bring the old vaudeville spirit to life, and symbolic themes that make the mind wonder at their true meaning. As a true Cirque Du Soleil follower (number four on my list), I can say with certainty that Quidam continues the grand tradition of taking your breath away. Read the rest of this entry »
