MOVIE REVUE: Don’t Stop Believin’ in the Rock of Ages

Adam Shankman is back in the center seat taking on another Broadway show turned movie. This time, we are heading to the decade of big hair, LP Records and Power Ballads. Yes, the 2009 musical tribute, nominated for five Tonys and currently playing on Broadway is getting the big screen tribute. Will this rose have its thorn or hit us with its best shot? Here’s my rad review of Rock of Ages.

AWARDS SEASON NEWS: Red, Memphis, & Fences Take the Tonys by Storm

Red, the play about art, swept the Tonys last night with six wins including Best Play, Best direction of a play, and Best performance by a featured actor in a play. Memphis, the Rythm ‘n’ Blues musical set in the 1950′s American South won four Tonys including Best Musical.

Hollywood came a calling at the 64th Annual Tonys Awards. Fences, the August Wilson’s drama about family, won three Tonys for best revival of a play and best performance by leading actor and actress for its stars, Denzel Washington & Viola Davis. Catherine Zeta-Jones won for best actress in a musical in the revival of Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music. Finally, Scarlett Johansson won for best featured performance as an actress in her Broadway debut of Arthur Miller’s A View From a Bridge.
