It’s been well over twenty years since I first heard EWF (Earth Wind and Fire). I was about five years old, “Shining Star” came on the radio and I have been a fan ever since. Last night at the Filene Center at Wolf Trap EWF didn’t just take the stage, they set it ablaze. They played all their hits in front of a sold out audience, just over 7,000 people strong.

Saturday night at The Music Center at Strathmore it’s Wagner’s 200th Anniversary Celebration! It featured the works of Richard Wagner, a 19th century German composer best known for his epic operas. Even though the program featured pieces originally written as an opera the concerto was all instrumental. The National Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Piotr Gajewski has the task of performing some of Wagner’s most complex compositions.

I remember in the mid to late 90’s there was a resurgence of metal music. Alternative music slightly tapered off and all sorts of various hip hop influenced metal bands started emerging. Bands like Korn, Deftones, Slipknot, Rage Against the Machine and Limp Bizkit. You can almost say that it all started with Slayer back in the 80’s, they were signed to Def Jam Records after all. Korn in my opinion was one, if not thee most significant band from the nu-metal era. When I heard they would be playing at The Filmore in Silver Spring I did a double take; what?!

It’s Friday night! What cha gone do? Let’s go to the go-go and have a good time. A year and a day after the passing of music legend Chuck Brown the “Godfather of Go-Go,” we are celebrating his legacy. Who can forget the man who undoubtedly forever changed music in D.C. and left an impression in the hearts of millions. Tonight at Rams Head On Stage The Chuck Brown All Star Go-Go Tribute Band will feature Chuck’s daughter KK, The Horny Horns, Sweet Cherie, Frank “Scooby” Sirius from Familiar Faces, Mighty Moe Hagans, Karlston “Ice” Ross, Marcus Young, D Floyd, White Boy and Sugar Bear from EU with even a few surprises. With all these legends of go-go sharing the stage it’s hard not to imagine a raucous atmosphere, the type where you pay for a seat but you’re not going to need it.

Who says Monday’s suck? Those must be the lameoids who weren’t at U St. Music Hall May 13th to see Digitalism perform live. The German indie dance duo was set to rock the stage not promoting a new album or anything but to just have fun. I guess that’s what it’s all about because if it isn’t, you’re in the wrong industry.

It’s Mother’s Day, that special time of year to show thanks and appreciation to all the moms out there. What better way to do this than to go see Nitty Gritty. Strolling down West Street there was that all so familiar sight of a tinted out tour bus parked out in front of Rams Head On Stage. That wasn’t just any ordinary bus! That was the transportation for legendary country rockers The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

There is no name more synonymous with silent film than that of Charlie Chaplin in my opinion one of the greatest film stars ever. His expressive acting, over the top antics and physical comedy was hysterical and is something that I would best describe as a live action cartoon. Tonight at The Music Center at Strathmore the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra conducted by Marin Alsop would present the musical scores of Modern Times synchronized live to the full length motion picture.
