Strathmore celebrates the first concert of its 2012-13 season and hometown rocker Pat McGee’s first time headlining the Music Center with the Pat McGee Pre-Gig Tailgate Party on Friday, September 28, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. Fans know that over the course of his career, McGee has amassed a huge following and a loyal collegiate fan base—with his music gaining national popularity shortly after his 1995 debut. A tailgate seemed an appropriate tribute to this college campus favorite—and McGee will make a pre-concert appearance at the event. - Parking spaces are limited and are available in the Mansion parking lot for $25. One ticket needed per car for admission.
- Ticket buyers can use one parking spot shared between two cars for grilling, games and relaxing before the show.
- While friends and walk-ups are invited to join the party, only patrons with tailgate tickets will be allowed to drive into the Mansion parking lot.
- Tailgaters can bring their own grub, or can purchase alcohol and food from the Restaurant Associates BBQ and Beer Tent—credit cards not accepted; partiers encouraged to bring cash.
- Strathmore will provide barrels for disposal of hot coals and trash.
- No big rigs, limousines, RVs or other large vehicles permitted.
- Tailgate ticket does not include show admission – concert tickets sold separately.
- Tailgate ticket buyers can leave their cars in the Mansion parking lot during the concert.
McGee’s homecoming concert at Strathmore is a reunion of collaborators, influences and bandmates.Among the special guests and local musicians joining McGee for his first reunion show are current and former Pat McGee Band bandmates John Small, Michael Ghegan, Patrick McAloon and Ira Gitlin, as well as lead singer of Eddie from Ohio Eddie Hartness, Nate Brown from Everything, John “Red” Redling from New Potato, as well as current high school musicians from his alma mater, Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington, VA.
Richmond-born McGee released his first album From the Wood in 1995 and quickly developed a dedicated following in the DMV for his straight-ahead acoustic rock. He has recorded nine albums, the most recent being the retrospective album, No Wrong Way to Make it Right. The album reconnects McGee with music comrades including Jason Mraz, Emerson Hart, Stephen Kellogg, Keaton Simons and Ryan Newell of Sister Hazel, as well as producer Doug Derryberry, who produced McGee’s first demo in 1991.
