What do you get when you combine talented architects, an amazing 12.5 ton sand sculpture, fantastic concessions, live entertainment and Baltimore’s number one attraction? Harborplace’s annual City Sand contest! The competition returns this year with an exciting patriotic theme for 2012. Armed with buckets and tools, several Baltimore architectur efirms will meet in the Harborplace Amphitheater on Saturday June 16 to create “Star-Spangled Sailabration” inspired sand sculptures. This year’s sand competition will celebrate Baltimore’s significant role in the War of 1812 and the birth of our nation’s anthem The Star-Spangled Banner.
The teams participating will have four hours to complete their sculptures. Spectators can cast their vote on Saturday for the coveted “People’s Choice Award,” adding to the excitement offered by this annual competition. This showcase of talent and creativity is sure to entertain and educate, while offering a great day of free fun for the whole family.
