Series goes back to local with season celebrating emerging artists living in and from D.C.
Strathmore’s Free Summer Outdoor Concert Series is going back to local, with most of its season dedicated to providing a platform for versatile, on-the-verge artists living in, or from, D.C. to share their talents with the thousands of visitors who flock to the Mansion lawn each summer. Kicking off the season is the family-friendlyCake for Dinner featuring members of Celtic group Scythian on Wednesday, June 20; followed by hip-hop emcee Incwell backed by a full band, The Free World, on Wednesday, July 11; local jazz favorite Elijah Balbed Quintet paying homage to personal icon jazz trumpeter Freddie Hubbard on Wednesday, July 18; and brassy rockabilly singer Marti Brom on Wednesday, August 8, 2012.
Also featuring local musicians is the capstone of Strathmore’s Free Summer Outdoor Concert Series, UkeFest ,going back to its roots in 2012 with a Hawaiian luau-themed celebration on Wednesday, August 15, 2012.
Also performing in the Gudelsky Concert Gazebo are French-born guitarist and Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris music man Stephane Wrembel on Wednesday, June 27; Nashville’s budding country western rose Lyndsey Highlander on Wednesday, July 25; and Dominican bachata legend Joan Soriano on Wednesday, August 1, 2012.
