Avalon Legacy Campaign Benefit Event – April 29th

 

A special event to benefit the Avalon Legacy Campaign in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the classic film, To Kill a Mockingbird, and the 90th anniversary of the construction of the Avalon, is scheduled for Sunday, April 29, 2012.

The program will include a reception at the Avalon Theatre (located at 5612 Connecticut Avenue in Northwest Washington) at 5:00 p.m. followed at 6:45 p.m. by a screening of Hey Boo: Harper Lee and ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’, a documentary about the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, and an 8:15 p.m. discussion.

National Public Radio’s Susan Stamberg will serve as host for the evening and will engage Mary Badham, the actress who played Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird, and Mary Murphy, the director of Hey, Boo in a discussion of the 50 year-old film. They will also attend the reception and visit with the guests.

There are two ticket prices: 1.) Hors d’oeuvres Reception, screening and post-film discussion: $250 per ticket; and 2.) Screening and post-film discussion: $50 per ticket.  Tickets may be purchased online at www.theavalon.org/benefit, where a print reply form that can be mailed with a check or with a credit card number can also be accessed.

In conjunction with this event, the Avalon will present daily screenings of the classic film “To Kill a Mockingbird” Sunday, April 22nd through Thursday, April 26th, including a special 10:00 AM student show ($2.50 tickets) on Wednesday, April 25th, as well as a special 10:30 AM senior (age 62+) show ($2.50 tickets) on Thursday, April 26th — the latter screening sponsored by Springhouse of Bethesda.
