Strathmore Presents SAVION GLOVER: SoLo iN TiME First D.C. Area Appearance of Glover’s New Show on February 16th
Strathmore presents Savion Glover in his latest show, Solo iN TiME to the Music Center at Strathmore on Wednesday, February 16, 2011, 8 p.m. The show opened to rave reviews at the Joyce Theatre in New York in March of 2009 before beginning its tour. The show marks Mr. Glover’s fourth appearance at Strathmore.
SoLo iN TiME is a continuation of the Glover’s HooFeRzCLuB tradition of making music through tap dancing’s percussiveness – using tap as sound, and sound as dance. Accompanied by his newest dance band Bare Soundz, live flamenco vibes and his own acclaimed Hooferz style, Glover and company explore the percussive medley of flamenco and the relationship between flamenco music and tap dancing as song. The flamenco music brings another element to Glover’s tap, offering juxtaposing beats and scores.
Savion Glover began his career with the starring role in The Tap Dance Kid on Broadway at the age of 10. Known for his role on Sesame Street, as the star in Spike Lee’s feature film Bamboozled and for his choreography in the 1996 Tony Award winning Bring in ‘Da Noise, Bring in ‘Da Funk, Glover also performed in and choreographed Happy Feet and performed in Season Five of Dancing with the Stars.
Tickets are $25-$55 (Stars Price $22.50-$49.50). For more information or to purchase tickets, call (301) 581-5100 or visit www.strathmore.org.
