DVD RELEASES: April 27th

Happy Tuesday Readers,

We hope that our April Showers bring May flowers! Although, April has been a good month for the Revue. Speaking of flowers, TRR has bloomed in many ways throughout the month. As you know, we have recently covered our first theatre revue, Fiddler on the Roof: The Farewell Tour. In addition, we covered the DC premiere of the indie horror/thriller Women’s Studies in Lorton this past Saturday. I must admit that its one of the best indie films I have seen in a long time. Be sure to look for it on Video On-Demand, May1st

With the workload steadily increasing, it was about time that I get some help. By coincidence, I found a new writer at the Kick-Ass movie screening. He has proven himself worthy to be part of the team. Would you help welcome our newest writer, Eddie, to our humble abode. Please check out his Kick-Ass & The Losers revues online and new revues in the weeks to come.

This week’s movies, you will witness the final role of Academy Award winner Heath Ledger and learn that middle age love can be complicated…

MOVIES OF THE WEEK

Blessed with the extraordinary gift of guiding the imaginations of others, Doctor Parnassus (Christopher Plummer) is cursed with a dark secret. An inveterate gambler, thousands of years ago he made a bet with the devil, Mr. Nick (Tom Waits), in which he won immortality. Centuries later, on meeting his one true love, Dr. Parnassus made another deal with the devil, trading his immortality for youth, on condition that when his daughter reached her 16th birthday, she would become the property of Mr Nick. Valentina (Lily Cole) is now rapidly approaching this ‘coming of age’ milestone and Dr. Parnassus is desperate to protect her from her impending fate. Mr. Nick arrives to collect but, always keen to make a bet, renegotiates the wager. Now the winner of Valentina will be determined by whoever seduces the first five souls. Enlisting a series of wild, comical and compelling characters in his journey, Dr. Parnassus promises his daughter’s hand in marriage to the man that helps him win. In this captivating, explosive and wonderfully imaginative race against time, Dr. Parnassus must fight to save his daughter in a never-ending landscape of surreal obstacles – and undo the mistakes of his past once and for all! Star-studded movie about the famous artist. Deciding to display the work of then-unknown artist Georgia O’Keeffe (Joan Allen) in his gallery without her knowledge, the fiercely private artist orders him to remove the collection. Once Alfred convinces her to allow him to become her benefactor and to champion her artistry, their relationship evolves as they fall deeply in love. Alfred leaves his wife for Georgia, but soon finds her rising star is poised to eclipse his light. As their relationship suffers, Alfred finds twisted ways to emotionally wound her, including taking a younger lover. Georgia’s search for solace moves her west, where she finds new inspiration for her paintings – and ultimately her own voice – in the New Mexico landscape.

Nicole Sullivan stars as Rita Clemens, an overworked wife, mother, and former lead singer of a Bangles cover band who has traded in a life of jam sessions and rock clubs for carpools and PTA meetings. In an attempt to reconnect with her youth and with the hopes of putting some spark back in her life, Rita dusts off her guitar and forms a garage band with Kip, her nosy postal carrier Patty (Tisha Campbell-Martin) and her unemployed neighbor Owen (Ian Gomez).

Actress, comedienne, author and co-host of ABC’s THE VIEW; Sherri Shepherd stars as Sherri Robinson, a single mother who juggles caring for her six-year-old son, Bo (Brandon Khalil), and working part-time as a paralegal, while still following her dream to become a full-time comedienne/actress.
