TRR EXCLUSIVE: The 2009 WAFCA Award Winners

Good morning everyone:

One of the things that has changed my life this year was the moment I became the 48th member of the Washington DC Area Film Critics Association. The Washington, DC Area Film Critics Association (WAFCA) was founded in 2002 and is comprised of DC-based film critics from television, radio, print and the internet. As of right now, they have 48 members. Notable critics and my fellow friends in WAFCA include “BDK” of WJFK 106.7 FM, Nell “The Movie Mom” Minow, and Arch Campbell – Legendary Film Critic of WJLA ABC 7. I am truly blessed to be part of an elite group. I mean can you imagine sharing your love of movies with the people whose sole job is to inform you if the movie is good or not. I was honored that the members of WAFCA welcomed me with open arms to their organization.

Ever since I began my journey as a film critic way back in October 2005 in a public access television studio in Bowie, Maryland; I have often asked myself “Where will this road take me in life?” If anyone said that I would be part of a bonafide film circle reviewing and grading the year’s best performance of film, I would have thought that they were mad. Flash forward to 2009 where yours truly had made that journey. This year, I have seen over eighty films in twelve months and I am still not finished. For the last two weeks, I had to reviews my “revues” and watch many films to pick out the cream of the crop for the WAFCA Annual Awards. I have to admit that selecting the five nominees for fourteen categories and then the winners was no easy task. For my first time selecting the WAFCA winners, I am impressed with this year’s winners. They have truly deserved their honor. And now, the moment we all been waiting for… The 2009 WAFCA Award Winners.
